Calipers and the Camo method
« on: Dec 12, 2006, 12:03:17 PM »
So in an effort to be prepared for Birf breakage, I've read up on the Camo thing. I've seen some say " Take off the caliper " and some say " leave it on". Downside of taking it off is that pesky bleeding thing, and the downside of NOT taking it off is several more pounds to wrassle around. So what if you cut a notch in the little bracket that holds the brakeline where the hose meets the hardline? Anybody done that?

Or you could just not use that bracket like I do.

buy a set of SS braided lines with the proper adapters and ditch the hardline all together.   aswell as the backing plate.

I leave the caliper on, saves time and the little bit of extra weight isn't that big a deal.  Thankfully since the 30's I haven't had to take one off!!
I don't need a winch, I wheel a TOYOTA!!!!!!!

just carry some bailing wire with you ,you have to be in you tool box any way just wire it up for a bit.
the caliper bolt can have some problem and can be hard to start.

or you can do what i did and get some 30 spline bobbys and not have to worry about it any more(its a nice feeling and for a good pice for what you get)

I notched the bracket with a cut off wheel, took no time and made things a lot easier. Unbolt and move, no bleeding.
