Renting a trailer
« on: Sep 11, 2006, 05:21:33 PM »
Anyone do this?

I live in an apartment and my parent's house is 2+ hours away, so no luck keeping it there. Renting for cars is no biggie, but what do you do when you're using 34"+ tires?

Yeah, I know...it's a toughy. I hate thinking about going to Tellico or Grey Rock or places like that and breaking something and not being able to get back home. Hopefully by next summer I can start making house payments too...house payments AND truck payments, wow what a dream.but until then. Maybe I just bum around and see if anyone is not using their those weekends.

I mean the trailer itself, I've got the hitch. I've rented them to tow home cars and used the over the tire straps, but don't think they'll work for 34" LTBs

I see...maybe that is apossibility in the future. I'll have some who know more about strapping them down help me out too. I couldn't remember how the ratchet strap worked.<--Now I remember. I'd get a full trailer too, instead of the dolly, more for safety and the fact that my travels are almost always interstate.

Thanks DTB

probably cheaper for u to pick up a good used trailer rather than rent, in the long run that is...  :yesnod:

Well, I'd do it maybe 3-4 times a year max, so it'll help me out until I'm able to store the trailer securely. I know several people reasonably close (in these metros, 50 miles is considered close?) that I could borrow the trailer for a weekend or so.

Try renting from equipment places- like US Rentals or whoever rents tractors and backhoes and stuff around you.  They'll have a flatbed "utility" style trailer that will easily support the weight of your vehicle.

The trouble there is that the rental fee can be pretty steep.  Several rentals from those places could have bought you a trailer...

You might also consider buying a cheap used trailer and storing it at a monthly storage fee place...
