5.0 HO v8 with toy t-case ?
« on: Dec 01, 2003, 09:18:03 AM »
The question is this. I have a 5.0 in my 92 4 runner and I have only driven it on the street to this point since the swap. I am running a Mustang T-5 with AA adapter so far but I already would like to upgrade to an NV4500. I know there are adapters made for toy t-cases behind an NV4500. How will they hold up to that power level ? I know anything can be broken im just wondering if I may be better finding a T-case that is made for that specific power level. I have a D44 front and FF14 B rear.

Thanks
"Sixty five in first what do I do with the other five gears ?"

I have a friend that put a dyno proven 500 horse 383 in a 91 x cab running 35's with no real probs as long as they are spinning no issues but once they did hook up and he blew the tranny all over the place.  My 84 has the gear transfer in it and that is the only thing that I havent broke yet! 350 w/a th350 Ive even broken trannys but no transfers yet :crossed:
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

You should be fine with that combo but you should( it you haven't already ) upgrade the T-case input to a 23 spline. The adpaters hold up fine it usally the 21spline input shaft or the output shaft( only a few have broken ) of the T-case that fails. We have lots of customers running v8s with toy cases and there doing extreme hard core rockcrawling. Laying down 2 patches is hard on the t-case but so is having 2 tires wedged locked under a rock. As far as the toy trans gos unless its a R series( R151F, R150F ) it will break part real easy behind a V8 or V6.

I'd say your weak link is by far that tranny..

I run the NP435 behind my happy HO five oh mated to dual cases (swapped to 23spliners at Marlins shop of course)

4500 would be nice but $$$
