Need aa BIG Buick favor...pls help!
« on: Jun 26, 2006, 06:22:55 PM »
I need a favor, my sisters boyfriend (good guy) called me up, he has a 1989 Buick (skylark, regal, century?), one of them sedans, I believe it is the 2.5 4cyl.  It won't start.  Checked the battery and it is good, pretty sure it is the starter gone caput.  I am 1500 miles away so I can't change it, but I was wondering if anybody has one of these things and could go snal a couple pictures of the engine bay and starter so I could walk him through it...he is super poor college student so not a lot of money to take it to a shop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!

Tell him to bang on the starter, that may get him going temporarily. May last for a month, a week or a day though.

2.5  should be on the front of the engine between the engine and radiator,  smack it a couple times,  or  have him jump it with 2 other cars, 24 volt  jump  to get it started,

i think the starter is held on by 2 bolts, then the pos cable and 1 small wire

Is it really the front or is it the side, you decide.

:shocking: :nonono: CT and Glen, NOT a good idea on a fuel injected rig like that!! You could very easily blow most or all of the electronics!!!

I did not pass that bit of info to him...I don't think he would know what the difference between 12 and 24 volts is.
