Sort of OT: Turbo 2wd Trans
« on: May 12, 2006, 09:29:39 AM »
Blew up my 2wd 86 turbo's manual trans, no 1st, 2nd, or reverse.  :smack: :smack: Can shift there, nothing happens except grim noises.  Anyone an idea of what works in it's place? Am thinking possibly a Supra trans? :help:

If you can find a good one I believe you can put your bellhousing on it and go, depending on which tranny.  A naturally aspirated gen 2 or 3 supra has a w58 I believe, which should be enough tranny for your truck, as long as it's not heavily modded.  What tranny did your truck come with?

nope your trans is the v-6 trans with a ret bellhousing. much bigger than the w-58 from the supras.  You could use a normal 2wd truck transmission, but it will not hold up long, and the driveshaft will have to be swapped out because the output shaft of the turbo/v-6 2wd is larger. and you may have to move the shifter hole in the floor depending on the year of the trans you get. I am sure you could sell the bellhousing, and use the cash to get the trans and driveshaft you will need. you can use that bellhousing on a r151, and have a bigger trans in your 4x4, along with the adapter to run gear driven cases.

Sounds like if I used a later 2wd V6 truck trans w/ my b/h it would work then?
I realize the ratios would likely be different. Don't care, right now I just need the truck drivable.

your ratios will be the same, the 2wd turbo trans does not have the same first gear as a turbo 4x4 5-speed. it is just the same as a v-6 trans.
