U-joints
« on: Apr 05, 2006, 05:11:51 PM »
I am putting my rear springs up front on a 79 toyota, I called a local driveline place about getting my driveshaft retubed. The guy asked me if it had " Staked in u-joints" What exactley is that? Can you just retube the front driveline when putting rears up front or do you have to get a cv style driveshaft? Thanks

Yea I tried to do some research real quick, and a staked in style u joint looks like it came on independent front suspension cars like a toyota previa. So the guy i was talking to might of thought i was talking about an independent front suspension  truck. Thanks for the help

maybe you should find another shop

wait till you get the springs moved  then check the length

you might be able to swap in a 84-85 front shaft

::) I'll second that.  the drive line shop I went to asked me what Make, Year, and what the distance was from flange to flange.  Picked it up and it bolted in.. done.
I like to Drive!

Sweet thanks guys. One more question. Did you have to use shims at all on your front axles to get the caster right with rears up front?

What are you running for springs? Is it a custom pack or a pair of marlins or something? Are you running stock driveline and also how much lift?

i have my stock front springs with 2  2wd S10 leaf added in

about 3.5 inches lift

i put in a 85 front shaft after putting in my dual cases,  but splines are showing so i know i cant flex at all without it separating,  a long slip yoke will make it perfect

Sweet. I think I am just going to end up ordering one from high angle or something, or just buy the spline kit that marlin has, I'm not sure yet though. I gotta take some more measurments. I put my rears up front witha  2 inch drop hanger and 5.5 inch shakles. It gave me about 5 inches of lift and moved the axle forward about 2 inches.
