transfercase shifter locked in netural
« on: Oct 05, 2005, 04:24:19 PM »
I purchased a crawler a few years back and it has worked great. I have a problem now and don't know if it is crawl box related or not. Sometimes I cannot put crawler into low range when in 2W and high then while messing with the shifters my transfer case locks in neutral. Then I have to take shifter off of my transfer case and slide one of the rods back and reinstall my transfer case shifter. This has happened twice now and Its a pain....any Ideas?

Sounds like it is trying to move both rods at the same time. May be like a Sammi when that nylon insert wears out.

Could be the shifter springs that is making it stick.

Mine did that. It was the shift fork that needed trimming...left side (drivers side on the rear case) and it wasn't all the time.....but it would lock into neutral.  :twocents:

It seems that the crawl box and transfer case shifter handles are locked to gether. As when you move One handlel the other one moves as well..... untill they release and then I'm locked in netural.... just to add some more info to the thread...

Replace all the Detent spring's in your box,Marlin has a kit you can get. as for both the donor box and rear tcase sticking together,Im not sure on that one.I am having a simular problem but its only when I drive it for 3 hrs on Highway it does that,But once I park it and it kools down I have no issues,I can wheel all day and it wont do it.

Sounds like you forgot to trim the left side shift rod on the rear case. :smack:  You have to trim the portion of the rod that portudes past the front of the case or it will do exactly what you are describing. Take your rear case off and trim the left side rod flush with the case and it will work fine.
