w56 Leaking pretty bad
« on: Jul 22, 2005, 09:43:00 AM »
Just recently my tranny has been leaking pretty badly.  When I park it and leave it overnight there is a stain the size of a baseball glove under the truck.  It appears to be leaking from where the bellhousing bolts to the tranny.  From that point forward is clean and dry, but from the same point towards the rear is covered in gear oil.  At first I thought it was the tcase because the oil seems to accumulate all over the tcase and my budbuilt.  The stain I mentioned before is from under the tcase and xmember.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  I dont have the down time to be able to pull it all apart to figure out whats wrong so if you guys could give me an idea of what seal or gasket it probably is I would appreciate it.  TIA

How involved is it to change that out?

After more careful observation it appears to be leaking here

Any ideas?

well, if the intermediate plate is leaking, then you'd have to pull it apart and throw some new gaskets in there...

best thing to do is get under there with a pressure washer and clean it real good and then drive it and see where it's coming from.Either way your gonna have to take it out.

its probly the out put shaft seals, thats where i find its most common, clean, diagnose, and replace, if it an out put then you wont have to remove it, but anywhere else, probly
