shifter seat
« on: Jul 11, 2005, 07:36:22 PM »
i know that the shifter seats in the toyotas are notorious for falling apart. my tranny shifter is very sloppy so i thouhgt that this could be the problem. When i took off the shifter and dissasembled it i found that a piece existed but i dont know if it is stock or somebodys jerry rigged thing. Does the stock shifter seat look like a large o-ring. this one is all black and pretty thin (looks exactly like an o-ring) and looks to me like it was just stuck in there. so i am asking is this normal or should i get the marlin shifter seat?

How hard is it to bend/move?  If its easy to bend it then its sure not the stock piece.  The stock ones were pretty tough and they are formed for the ball of the shifter.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Hey,  That black plastic O ring is supposed to go in there too.  So don't toss is away.  The shifter seat sits ontop of that black O ring.  Your shifter seat probably fell to pieces and fell into the tranny or not replaced in a prior rebuild.

Now if Marlin's comes with both pieces, then you're golden!

Yup, my new kit from toyota had a white seat...the old one I pulled (I mean vacuumed) out had pretty much turned to dust.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
