Bench seat to bucket seat ??
« on: Jul 27, 2004, 05:19:15 PM »
I'm installing a w56 into my 85 toy replacing a g52. My question is what type of bucket seats can i use to replace the bench seat with?  What will look good, be safe to use and not cost an arm and a leg to buy?

Pretty much any seat that came out of an import car or pickup will work very easily.  I put a set of seats from a 91 mitsubishi talon tsi in my 81.  Then when I stripped it to build my 90 I pulled the seats and put them in that truck.  It wasnt really much of an issue to install them, simply drill some holes and bolt them in.

If you want some cheap stock Toyota seats, nothing can beat the 1st gen MR2 seats from 1985-1989. They are a direct 100% bolt in! I drive a MR2 daily and the seats are so comfortable its one less thing I had to upgrade to. I didnt need any fancy aftermarket seats since my stock buckets were just as good!

Once I get my '81 going, I wont even think twice about finding some MR2 seats. The early styles (1985-1986) had a two tone color scheme while the latter designs (1987-1989) were all one color. Same seats, just the multicolor looked cool

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll probably go with your suggestion big mike since it is a direct bolt in. I'll be prowling the junkyards this weekend and hopefully be on the road again by sunday. Thanks again!!

Another direct bolt in would of course be buckets out of a Toyota pickup, but an Acura Integra or Honda Civic has bucket seats that will bolt right into your truck.  Another thing to think about.
