3VZE/3RZ swap
« on: Mar 23, 2010, 12:53:18 PM »
Hi. I have searched pretty hard for information on swapping out my 3VZE for a 3RZ. The references I have found indicate that this swap would be "more difficult" than a 5VZ swap. Besides having to fabricate motor mounts and find a T100 oil pan, why would the 3RZ swap be any harder than the 5VZ? My truck is a stock 91 extra cab 4wd with the 3VZE/5spd combination. Thanks for any info.

it's only harder b/c of the motor mount situation if your current truck has a 3VZ. Other than that, you've still gotta wire it up, get your transmission mount correct...

:yesnod:  most people go with the 5vz v6 when they have a 3.slow in the truck already. you use your same motor mounts, cluth flywheel setup if you wanted. if you went with the 4cyl you would have to change both of those and oil pan etc etc depending on the front end you have (ifs or straight axle). the v6 motor may not be cheaper than the 4cyl. but its worth the extra money for the power difference in my opinion. the wiring is pretty much the same on both engines as far as making them run.

Whoa, have not been on here for a bit. Thanks for the info everyone. CookieMonster - is the clutch just a matter of having to go with the 3RZ clutch kit, flywheel, and adapting a bellhousing or are there problems with fitting the hydraulic clutch assembly from the stock 3VZE setup to the 3RZ (where it mounts to the bellhousing etc.)?

I know the 5VZ is a great engine also but, I owned a taco for a few years with the 3RZ and really liked the gas mileage.

im not exactly sure if the 3rz will bolt right up to a v6 trans ?? i know if your running a w56 trans (4cyl) you have to change the bell housing to a w59 off the tacoma's to bolt it up. maybe someone else can chime in and let you know for sure. the only swaps ive helped with are a 3.0 to 3.4 and a 22re to 2rz, so im not sure on the v6 to 4cyl. swaps yet. hopefully someone with more trans knowledge can let you know for sure
