Sched 40 pipe for bumpers?
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:18:23 PM »
Just curious...I know Marlin and others use DOM tubing for their bumpers, but curious what people think about using Sched 40 pipe? Also considering using if for rock sliders. Is the pipe too weak? would it split the seam when bumped or sliding? (I know I wouldn't use it for a rollcage).

Give me your opinions....

Thanks

if boogerweldz would build exos out of poop pipe and trust it for rollovers   id trust it for bumpers..   cool thing about pipe is that it doesnt bend  as bad as tube nor does it dent.

I say go for it.  I wouldn't do it myself but this sport is all about workin' with the tools available to you.  I definitely wouldn't do a cage out of it, but then again a pipe cage is better than no cage.  If all you have access to is a pipe bender then build it up and as long as it works for you and you like it's astethics, that's all that matters.
in the projects nooga, anything goes

Cool, That's what I was thinking, but wanted some input before I went that route. If anyone else has an opinion (about the pipe :hehe:) I'm interested in hearing it.

Germ just do it you wont be unhappy with the results, it is more than strong enough for a bumper and its cheap. ;)

I use schedule 40 pipe for my front bumper and my sliders. The pipe gets pretty gouged up on the rocks and it does get dings in it if you hit real hard, but for the price (free from the sprinkler fitters) it works great fof me.

I used Sched 80 for my rock sliders and I helped build a role cage out of both sched 40/80, it held up real good but he sold his truck a while ago so don't know now.
