Ford 3.8 V6 swap
« on: Oct 23, 2005, 10:34:47 AM »
Just wondering if there's any info out there floating around on this swap. I've got a really good deal on a 90 Supercoupe. That I can't pass up. And the Touota needs a new engine.
Right now, the cheap (cheaper) route would be to run a Ford T18 tranny (with International T18 guts in it) and a Dana 20 transfer case. My brother has this same setup in his CJ5. Minus the Blower. He's got all the gearing and power he needs. But that's a lot of work. I don't want to spend 500+ for the adapter to mate a Ford auto to the Toy transfer case. Because, if I play my cards right, I can do most of this swap for the cost of that adapter.

Well, I really like the 6.32:1 first gear the T18 has. That and the fact that I already have the Ford T18 sitting in the garage. All I need to do is find a Scout T18. Swap gears between the 2. And bolt up a dana 20 case. Can't afford 3/4-1 ton axles right now. So I need to keep the Toy axles in it. Really the Transmission is the least of my worries. I gotta figure out how the hell I'm gonna stuff that intercooler with all the plumbing into the Toyota engine bay. And get it to clear the steering.  I think I might run the radiater in the bed. But if it'll fit up front, I'll run it there. I've done some measuring, And I think it'll fit. Just got a ton of things to figure out. Like what to do about the crank position sensor.
