Noise reducers
« on: Apr 14, 2005, 12:14:56 AM »
Hey guys,

I know that most vehicles come from the factory with those little black square wafer-sized resistors or something that reduce certain frequencies caused from engine noise that can distort your vehicles audio system..

But I remember I removed them on my MR2 when I did the SC conversion and I also removed the factory one on my '81 truck when I did the 3RZ swap.

So I was just wondering if they do actually work, because I might be at the wrecking yard this weekend and I thought I would just pick a couple up.

The reason, I should had mentioned first, is that my radio is pretty staticky. It is ok when Im at an idle, but when I get above 3k rpm or so it gets louder. So what works? Anyone know if I can just pick something up from Radio Shack and just wire it into my electrical system?

Thanks in advance
BigMike

This is a common problem with Toyota's. I used sheilded cable for the power wire & ground. It helped a fair amount on my CB.

What about the factory noise reducers? Do you notice a difference if you unplug yours? If so then I'll just install a couple of them

Having your rig over gournded will make more of a difference than a noise suppressor will.  As you all probobly know yota's are very ground intensive so running more/ replacing cheasy factory ground wires with larger gauge will help tremendously.

What he said.  I know that much at least.  That is where my radio/cd player is wired, ad it comes in crystal clear.  it used to be wired into a hot wire in the cab, and it sucked.

I get noise thru my amp and it is wired directly to the battery w/ 10 gauge wire. It's not a cheapie amp but also not a super spendy unit either (Alpine). Since it's engine speed variable I think there might be some leakage in the Alt's Diodes. Time for a Cap?

Is it a buzzz, or a whine?   buzz is ign. whine is alt.

Hey mikey, if your getting "stataitky" from yours ya mite want to be sure the ant. is not grounding out to the body. ok,ok yes the ant. should be grounded but not the part that goes to the radio. the grounded part go to the sheld  around the coax cable. and the small wire in the middle goes to the radio. so if at any point the radio part of the ant. tuches the body it will realy make a lot of "noise".

No, its none of these problems, I had just figured that some company made a noise reducer but I guess not.

I've got correct grounds and my antenna wire is not looped in a coil, so Im sure its just my old radio. Later this year I'll probably get a Galaxy or something better

Thanks

More of a whine. Like a 60 cycle hum that changes frequency (increases) with increased engine speed.

Used to have solid core plug wires on a hot rod 2.0L  EAO, Carl's Jr. asked me to turn off my engine 'cause they couldn't hear what I was saying over the static. :gap:
