Topic: Charge light relay question

I have a 1982 Toyota 4x4 iive heard of someone putting a diode in the plug that goes to the charge lamp relay does this bypass the relay itself and does the charge light still function normal I do have a aftermarket altimeter hooked up in my truck any info on this would be very helpful thank you
