Hey, folks.
I wanted to introduce myself. I live in Pennsylvania, and earlier this year, I picked up a Daihatsu Rocky for pretty cheap. It needs lots of work, but that's no biggie. I have a lot to learn, and it's already been fun.
The body is very good, frame is excellent, and I spent the summer doing cosmetic things. After some painting and fooling around, the front looks like this:
I'm here because a few things have just fallen in my lap, and now, my knowledge base doesn't exist. The engine needs work; she's smoking and leaking coolant, and so I was going to pull it and get it running, maybe do a 22-something swap down the road. but less than a mile from my house, there is a smooth 2wd auto 2rzfe complete Toyota pickup for less than what I believe I'd spend to get the Rocky motor going...and of course, double my power, in hp and amps, with much more engine support. Looking to see if this is a good idea.
Also close to be is a complete '83 Toyota pickup drivetrain...which would be the solid front axle I would need for the clearance for the Toyota engine anyway. I can get that for $800.
So, I'm looking for advice...like, can I use the auto trans from this pickup? I"ve read in some places I need to get a 4wd tranny if I want to convert to that.
I look forward to learning. Thank you, any of you, in advance!

Lets see what you can make out of that cute 'ute. I've no experience with a Rocky, but it can possibly be done with determination and a little mechanical skill.
