Can I remove the belt from the 5vz-fe AC?

Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but the AC in my 04 Tacoma (5vz-fe) is going bad and is making a terrible sound. I was wondering if I could just cut the belt for now and fix it later? The only pulleys connected are an idler pulley and the AC compressor. Thanks!
