No one material property tells the whole story but the yield strength of 4340 is 68 ksi while 300m is 230 ksi. In super simple terms the yield strength is how much a material can take without getting permanently deformed. If the birfield internals (i.e. Cage) is breaking which material would you want?

Wtf??? Now im confused.mine look like the gun drilled.guess ill see if a zerk fits in it tommorrow.maybe my eyes are just fawked!

Stock birfs and LFs have a hole tapped into the end.  It is not for a zerk (at least not any I have).  A 10x1.25 bolt, IIRC, screws into that hole to help 'pull' the axles out slightly when trying to put the snap ring back on.  I do not have birfs that are drilled all the way thru (which would be the purpose of having a zerk hole there) but I have that hole for (im assuming) the reason I use it for.
If I don't ask the stupid question, who will?

85 Runner, 22RE, AEM 'warm intake', TRD Cam, LC Headers, Dual Case, 5.29's, ARB Front Locker, Detroit Rear Locker, 35's, V6 Brakes, ARP Studs, Marlin Arms/Caps/Hy-Steer, Winch, Armor, Can-Back Top....and...

...more Gremlins than Gizmo the Mogwai was responsible for.
