where to put temp sensor
« on: Aug 26, 2010, 09:00:35 PM »
im wondering where to put an aftermarket temp sensor on my 22re. by the looks of it the factory one is at the upper coolant out let, but in the FSM it shows a "water thermo sensor" under the throttle body. im assuming if i unplug that sensor i might have cold start problems, but if put in the upper coolant tube then if the t-stat is closed its not gonna be an accurate reading. help

if i remember correctly the water temp sender is at the back of the top side of the engine. Its the one for the temp gauge on the cluster. The engine coolant temperature sensor that supplies the signal to the ECU is located at the front of the engine near the fuel rail on the passenger side
Those are some huge welds!

ok ill look to see.

also for the oil presswure there are two holes, one next to the motor mount and one next to the fule filter. the one next to the filter is also next to the oil filter so im kinda thinkin it that one

The gauge sensor is on the head or intake manifold buried somewhere around the #2 or #3 cylinder.   (I've only found the wire that drops down..............)

There are 2 sensors right under the thermostat outlet.
One is the cold start timer, the other the temp sensor for the ECU.

The sensor on top behind the outlet is a temp switch (4wd only).    Don't remember exactly what it does............

:attention: for the record i have a r not an re so this is all just off the top my head from working on other ppls stuff.. lol  :attention:

for the oil pressure i used the one under the filter (where stock sender was located)... tapped it to standard thread so i wouldnt have any problems finding parts later.... and i used copper tubing to run it to the gauge... dont use that crappy clear plastic stuff....  I always keep a pipe plug of that size also just in case i spring a leak.

note on this however.... i recently spun my 2nd and 3rd cylinders and i still showed good pressure.... IDK maybe it was a fluke
