Running cool
« on: Sep 21, 2015, 11:46:39 AM »
So this summer I noticed that my runner was running a little cool (nothing bad) now that the weather here is Utah is cooling down it is becoming an issue. I know the old trick about putting cardboard in front of the radiator but I would rather fix it right. The things I am going to try is full coolant flush and service including thermostat. Check and make sure the clutch on my fan is not locked up and always running. Can you guys think of anything else off the top of your head?

Do not get a aftermarket T-stat, go to the dealer and get one.

Oops, not trying to start a debate just asking a question so I can learn something. Why do most guys in here harp on an oem thermostat? I never had any trouble with murrays or motorad fail safes.

Can't speak for OOP's, but for me it started with replacing the t-stat on my 3.0.  When I had the two side by side it was clear there was a difference in quality, the aftermarket one looked like it was make out of a soda can.  I didn't even bother installing it, I returned it and paid $6 more for an oem one.  Since then I have found the aftermarket t-stat to be the number one cause of overheating issues in 22r(e)'s when everything else has been replaced with new parts.  The only thing I think of as to why, is that like most non oem products, they aren't made to oem specs or with oem quality materials, therefore their performance and durability are a hit and miss.
