smog concerns
« on: Sep 26, 2014, 11:22:11 AM »
hi everybody, im new to toyotas and just picked up a 1980 pickup and have some smog concerns. It has a fresh rebuilt 20r and a brand new catalytic converter but i have the hedman header on there that isnt the ca legal one with the air injection manifold so what im wondering is if ill pass the emissions test without the air injection on there. Any advice or help would be usefull.

It will not pass if the smog tech goes by the book.  It may not pass out of the tail pipe due to not having the air injection. I have a manifold for a 22r..... IDK if thatll work for ya, but you can just have it.

Yeah as long as it passes out the pipe i can at least make it look like the air injection is hooked up haha

yea most likely it wont pass due to that, itll throw different numbers without the air injection, find a smog place that works with toyotas/ 4x4s and may be able to let it slide. but either way the header needs a CARB number too to pass the visual.

I had a 1981 Toyota 4x4 blue long bed that had a hard time passing smog. It would always dry out and harden the aap diaphragm on the side of the carb and would always give to much fuel. Other than that I 2nd Nation since you have a new cat.
