running out of patience!
« on: Feb 23, 2014, 11:30:35 AM »
what's up everyone. got an 85 4runner with a 22re. ran perfect when I parked it six months ago. fired it up recently and it now has a huge miss. replace plugs, wires, cap, rotor and it made no difference at all. idle jumps from 5-750 while idling and when I graduation press the throttle it jumps up and down as it increases. any thoughts?

check for vacuum leaks around the throttle body and intake.
check your grounds make sure they're tight.
cleaning the TB would be a good idea too.
the TPS (throttle position sensor) should be replaced if you haven't already.

hope this helps!

TPS tests good and I cleaned everything. when I unplug my AFM the engine runs flawless till I touch the throttle (which makes sense). does this mean it's bad?

Post up what codes you're getting off the check engine light.

Ummm, Gasoline does not have a six month shelf life and sour gas will certainly cause the issues you've described.

I'm with Bigmike, gas is bad and I would also look for wires chewed up by a rat

If it was stored indoors then it can't be a rat as rats only live outdoors.

not getting any codes at all. and it had brand new gas in it. ended up being the AFM. I removed the cap and adjusted the spring tension. I don't know how that could have gone bad just by sitting but I'm glad it's fixed! thanks everyone !

If you have ever been inside your AFM, then it is your responsibility to carefully reseal it. Any moisture at all will cause it to act up. :nonono:

Glad ya got it running right! :driving:
