newbie questions please be nice :)
« on: May 18, 2013, 04:16:28 AM »
Hi my name is Matt and im from Australia, recently I purchased a gearbox beleiving it was a r154 but the more I spend time searching google I am starting to think its a r150.

For people that might know was a r154 ever released with a 160mm input shaft? apparently it was off a 7mgte motor and has a bell housing height of 173/174mm which is the same as a w56 I measured, my problem is now I have no way of mating it to my 3rzfe that I can find unless I change input shaft/ custom make a bell housing or sell it and try buy a long input shaft model.

From the outside is it possible to tell a r150 and 154 apart?

sorry for the questions have spent days trying to goole it and am going around in circles

thanks

Matt

went into work this morning and I now beleive its a r155 from a 2trfe hilux/tacoma, how I have come to this as the alleged 7m bell housing convienietely bolts up to a 3rz block so looks like its pretty :pokinit: situation.

Does anyone know if gears can be interchanged or if a 155 is comparible in strength to the 154?

Your best bet would be to email Bigmike or Marlin, they will be your best sources of information.

If the trans is an R series, and it bolts to a 3RZ, there is only two options that I've heard about.  The R from the Taco(155 like you stated, but I'm not certain), or the R151 from a turbo 22RE in a pickup/Runner.

It would be great for a 3RZ, but I believe you're forced to use the R155 since the bell is made to support the longer input shaft of the later model trans (7.5"?) versus the earlier R150 input shaft.(6.5"?).

And I haven't heard much about the 155.  I would presume since its an R series trans, that its decent in the strength department, but I don't know.  I'm sure the reason most guys don't run them here in the US is availability and cost, but t-case would be a lefty, whereas most of us early model guys need right side drop T-cases.
