toyota driveline cv and yokes
« on: Apr 08, 2005, 09:31:02 AM »
I am in the process of getting cv drive lines put together for my truck as the rear drive line is almost at it's max bend without any flex.
What I have found is that 83 cv's have more degrees of bend than 84-85, though my research told me other wise and 84-85 slip yokes have more degrees of bend than 83. Also it apears that 83 and 84-85 cv's have the same bolt pattern i.e. the holes line up it's just that the 83 has smaller holes. So I am drilling the holes on the 83 cv out to 10 mm 84 and up driveline bolt size and combining the 83 cv with the 84 slip yoke for the most degrees of bend I can get for the rear and will use the 84 cv up front with a long slip yoke so I can drive in front wheel drive if need be. What's your experiance with toy cv's, and why the conflicting info on what cv's have the most bend? I will psot pics in a few hours.

What I have been told was that the 84/85 CV's were capable of 35 degrees, and the IFS were only 25 degrees.  Don't know about the pre 84's though.  Only thing I know about the earlier ones was that they used smaller bolts (8mm instead of 10mm).  Guess I ASSUMED that the pre 84 CV's were also 35 degrees

yea,,the ifs cv's look like there more beef,,but do need to be clearanced to get more angle..It sounds like you have other issues some where..an 84 85 cv should work just fine..I am running 2+ inches or drive terrian lift and a few inches of suspension lift and my cv's are fine,,out of an 84..is your rear end angled right?are you worried over nothing?have you lifted the rear of the truck to test for bind?you really don't need tat much angle in the back..I think it looks like you need more then you do..Just checking to try to save ya some work..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

Run a 84+cv in the rear and 84+ jointed ends int he front.  The straight u-joints allow much more degrees of travel than the pre 84 parts.

Im running a non clearanced 94 cv int he rear and straight u-joings in the front and I never have any bind that i know of. I have a flat belly and 3-4" os lift and I have no issues with runing down the highway.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Yeah I think I will run the 83 cv and 84 slip yoke for the rear, and the 84 cv and 84 slip yoke in the front.

no kidding.    no need for a cv on the front. Hell  jesse from High Angle Driveline  says  no cv on the front.   i run a single ujoin on each end up front  with a single case..  if i unbolt the driveline from the yoke on  the axle   the driveline will drop to the ground   with a cv it wont.
