i can agree to just the sound of the action scaring people off. i had mine resting beside my bed in my apartment when i lived in midland texas, was startin to go to bed when i heard somebody messin with my lock. knew it wasnt my girlfriend because she was asleep beside me so i rolled outta bed and cocked the shotgun. in the other room i hear somebody say "oh !!" and running footsteps out my front door and down the stairs. good thing i have insomnia i guess.
My home security system is a Glock 21 (45 cal). I figure the business end of my 45 should be enough of a deterrent, if not then maybe the red light shining down the hall way will be. I have winchester model 1200 which is use for hunting and trap, to long for home defense. I would like to pick up a second 12 gauge and set it up for home defense. I think the shot gun is the superior close quarters weapon.
Stole this from Reno4x4, thought it was pretty good
Someday, when I have children of my own they are going to be trained in the proper use and safety protocol of a firearm from a very young age.
I've been trying to convince my wife for years that this is a good idea, 'cause if they know what it is, and understand safety, they will never get hurt accidently. Knowlege is power. Unfortunatly, she refuses to let me even show them the .45 I have, 'cause she's afraid of it. Erik
gun saftey is very important but the more you know and the more you handle and use guns the more people realize guns arn't dangerous at all its sloppy handlers and people that are dangerous are what give guns a bad name and cause all the accidents and problems.
guns are tools, just like a chainsaw, an axe, or a hammer. Any of those can be dangerous, or potentially deadly in untrained, un educated, and unexperienced hands.
Honestly I am far more worried about all the heavily armed citizens I deal with EVERY day. Instead of a gun their weapon of choice is a 2000 lb + block of steel with wheels called an automobile. People behind the wheel scare me more than anyone with a gun.
Before anyone goes off for what I'm about to say here's some background on me. I grew up in a small farming community where I hunted and fished. I own a .308 (my grandmother passed it on to me when she died) and a 870 12 gauge. I don't support gun control. But I will admit this, I don't support assault rifles being sold. I don't see a practical use for them, since to me a gun was always used for target practice to get your sights in for hunting so you could put meat on the table. I do though understand this is America and I wouldn't try and take anyones guns away because we all know. If you ban guns the bad guys will give them up too! NOT. Thank you for the 40 reasons. They made me laugh!
