'81 Toyota Drive Shaft
« on: Oct 22, 2012, 01:50:27 PM »
Hello All.

I have an '81 Toyota 4x4.
The previous owner gave it a nice lift, new leaf springs, welded a mount for shocks.

I have ordered an extended spline drive shaft from LowRangeoffroad.com.

Problem is, their longest drive shaft reaches a mere 18".

I have measured the distance from the flange on my differential and the joint mounted to my transfer case.

THE QUESTION:

Can I have a shop simply weld an extention onto the drive shaft I ordered @ 19" of length.

I am aware that the one I ordered is balanced and the weld would render the shaft unbalanced. I have minor engineer knowlege; I know the advantages of machine balancing axles.

Can I get away with it and be OK until I come up with the $700 that Marlin Charges for a custom length?

Thanks,

That's the exact one I ordered. I need to extend it. Any suggestions?
