I assure you it is a night and day difference. The cost is up to you. http://www.toyonlyswaps.com/ these guys can answer some more questions for you.

Please do a little searching, 3.4 swaps have been covered very thoroughly on the different message boards. Google is your friend.

The 3.4 will nearly double your rwhp, so yes it would be a night and day difference from the 22r(e).  Cost wise, ORS used to charge around $5k for a trun key 3.0-3.4 swap, a shop that is unfamiliar with the swap will likely charge significantly more.

If you don't have a 1st gen straight axle, nor have done an straight axle swap, you can buy a 3rd gen Runner for less than the swap will likely cost.

They may charge less if its a quote, not knowing what all needs to be done. In which case they are screwing them selves or short cutting the customer some where. Thats a tricky one.

Okay thanks! I do need to do some more research..and maybe a 3rd generation 4runner might be the way to go but its not as cool as or stylish as the removable 2 door 1984-1989 4runner..but might be more practical

If your in Cal make an appointment with the smog ref, before the swap. They will let you know the guidelines they have to follow to pass you. If you make your own frame engine mounts, you don't have to cut a hole in your hood to clear the taller v6 engine.

Oh..okay I didn't even think to ask the ref about it before hand thanks...not sure if I could make my own mounts I don't have the tools for that but its a good idea anyways
