what programer to use for a 7.3 powerstroke
« on: Feb 13, 2005, 08:24:59 PM »
My dad has a 2002 F-250 4X4 with the 7.3 litre POWERSTROKE diesel. He wants to buy a programer to get more power/torqe/gas milage....
He has looked at the diablo programer. Is this a good choice? Is there a better one out there? If so.... What and Where? :crossed: I hope you guys can help me to help him with a wise choice... THANKS!
Have "YOU" ever done somethin' stupid?........... Me either....

Go to www.thedieselstop.com and read up on what these guys have to say. All the pros and cons of every programmer or box has been brought up on that board. There are also some super cheap mods that you can do to a 7.3 to get more hp.

The only prob with the edge is there is no tranny control. I'm not sure if it's an issue on the 7.3, but the 6.0's are tearing up trannies with the edge. I really like the edge too, but it bugs me that the Attitude monitor has read outs for everything but tranny temp. If you've got a manual trans then it's no big deal, but with an auto you'll need to buy a tranny temp guage.

No probs with mine. It pulls my toy hauler (9000+lbs empy) with no prob stock. Can't wait to pump it up a bit though. I was going to go with the edge, but I want improved tranny control too.

make sure you put in a tranny gauge too. The stock one is just an idiot light with a needle, don't trust it.

I've heard the Diablo's tend to run hot, both EGTs and water temp. I've heard good things of Bully Dog and Edge. If it was a Dodge I could help a bit more.

My buddy just junked his Hypermax and got an Edge for his 2001 Super Duty. He loves it. He also has a 4 " exhaust and an intake and it will embarass any ricer in town. Tows a fully loaded enclosed 4 place sled trailer up the canyons like it not even there.
Size doesn't matter... yet.
