Should be a axle seal causing the issue. The seal should be available at your local parts store.

so do you have to press out the bearing to change it?

Seal. Possable rear axle bearring replacement too. Theres a reason the seal went bad and that's usually the reason. At least that's why I've had to change mine...  :twocents:

it bearly leaks and i drive it in creeks consantly so there is always water getting in the axle. i change diff lube once a month. dont you have to cut an axle tube off to make a jig to press the bearing out???

It is a pain to press it off, setting it up takes longer than removing it. Cut a groove in the retaining collar with a dremel on both sides of the collar & whack the grooves with a chisel a couple times to crack the retainer. Then all there is to press off is the bearing. Heat the new collar in the oven before you press it on, goes a little easier with the collar expanded. I have always had a failing bearing when the axle leaks so I always replace them.

Or buy two used axles with backing plates. People are usually giving them away on here when they go to the IFS axle.

Pull you axles out, check them for play (axle pointing a the ground and the pressure plate on top, rock the plate. Shouldn't be more than like 1/2" of play) and replace your seals. Should take about half an hour. jack up and do one side at a time so you don't loose any gear oil.

if you dont have a press or an old housing to make one contact my friend Jake http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?action=profile;u=2193

he lives in Pekin IL and does this sort of thing all the time.

fwiw,  the axle bearings are sealed units.  Your bearing is GONE because it cant leak if the bearing is in good shape.  it has the inner seal, the sealed bearing then the outer seal.

water wont go past a good bearing and seal.  the water is getting in through the axle vent.  you need to get this--> http://www.marlincrawler.com/axle/rear-axle-parts/axle-breather-kit

if the vent is plugged on the diff when the oil gets warm and expands  it will expand out the seal but the biggest root of the problem would most likely be the bearing
