Anyone live in Crescent City, CA?
« on: Jul 19, 2011, 12:55:32 PM »
My wife has an opportunity to start a great job there so we're contemplating moving. Anyone live there or have been there can give me the low down on the good/bad?

Looks nice in the pictures we've seen and the housing isn't terribly too expensive.

R.I.P to my Papa, I miss you pops......

it's a nice quiet town.  been there a few times when i was in high school for swim meets and just driving through to the rougue river in gold beach oregon.  it stays cool all year around, even in summer time.  We use to have family friends that lived there, they moved to fort bragg, basically same climate.  jrock lives about an hour or so from there closer to humbolt.  I'd say its a good place to raise a family.

where do you live now?

about 6 hours South in Yuba City (near Sacramento/Roseville)

That what I thought looking at the pictures. Figured it would be the same weather as Fort Bragg and it looks like a small town.

I'll do some more research here in a bit, wondering what the population is and what amenities they have there?

EDIT:  Just looked at crescentcity.org   populations 7,542

Doesn't look like they have any big grocery stores but they do have a Wally Mart :D

Anyone know what the closest major city is?

It would suck moving further away from the trails...

I went up there 1 time for a family reunion. Its defiantly a small town and has that homy feel. Great weather but you will be much further from the trails you know and love.

Pelican Bay is there... if that matters to you (it probably shouldn't matter).  :lipsrsealed:

Close to Oregon    but for the bad news, you'd still be in California.

Prime area for (admittedly rare) tsunamis  :ack:

Closest "cities" are Eureka, CA and Medford & Grants Pass, OR.

It's a neat town. Good (cool & damp) weather, fun little car show in the park each summer.... as with any coastal town, there are some hippies uh, "organic people".

I grew up in chico, so i know what yuba city is like.  your right there by the mountains and the con, thats a really tuff call.  i would weigh your options.  don't forget too that cost of living/housing is probably going to be at least double in cresent city than what it is in yuba.

:haha:

Cost of living double??   hmm... well the housing market isn't double. It's maybe just a tad higher than the Yuba area. Homes are just a bit older.... I think giving up that hour and thirty minute drive to Fordyce is killing the deal right now.  Maybe I could become a stay at home dad :D

I'd also increase the drive to Marlin's shop by 6 hr's!
