3.4 toyota or 4.3 Chevy
« on: Jul 01, 2011, 05:35:29 PM »
I need some advice, what would you do?  :driving:
I have a 88 4runner, with the 3.0 engine. Not impressed with the engine power.
I have a line on a 3.4 taco engine and 4.3 S-10 engine.
Which one would you install and why?
Which swap would go the quickest and easiest?
Thanks for your information, and help.   Carl. :usa:

Well the 3.4 is going to be way easier since it's practically the same motor as the 3.0. That's what I'd go with

Do you live in CA and do you want it to be smog legal? If so, the 3.4 is way harder to do than a 4.3 from what I hear. I know my buddy did a 3.4 swap and did it once for the refs to sign it off, pulled it out and did it again to make it right... He was replacing a 22re so that may make a difference, but I'd definitely spend some major time either talking to a ref or researching all that. I hear the 4.3 swap is pretty basic

Either way a 4.3 is easier.  Just go with what feels yeah.  A 4.3 will require an adapter.  Its cool your swapping either way.
