Bad Igniter?
« on: Mar 06, 2011, 05:23:41 PM »
So i picked up an 88 2wd pickup carburated, and im not getting spark out of it all the time. when i turn the key over to "ON" no spark, when i crank it over, nothing, but when i turn it to off, i get one good size spark. i replaced the coil with one i knew worked and same thing. when i turn the ignition to on, i get power on the positive side of the plug going into the igniter. anyone have any ideas that might lead me away from the $300+ dollar fix, maybe some other thing i can test?
Thanks in advance!
When in doubt, skinny pedal!

there is a toyota sticker on the side, in bigger font it reads
375 but in smaller numbers its 89620-35140
those were all the numbers i saw on it, they were on the side not on the top, there was nothing on the top

ok, so i found another igniter, looks the same, numbers are different. hook it up, has spark, has gas, tries to start but sputters and coughs, wont start. is the igniter still the problem as its not the exact same one? or do i have another problem? we have adjusted the timing like crazy, but same result. its got a weber carb and it has plenty of gas....
thanks in advance for your help guys
