1981 tachometer
« on: Sep 27, 2010, 05:30:52 PM »
ok so i got a gauge cluster from a 1981 2wd pickup. it has a tach. mine did not originally have a tach. so i think i know what wires are for the tach (the ones right above the speedo cable) but neither wire has power. so where do i get the power for one of those wires.

it should be just a plug and play thing. as long as its the one with round gauges and round plugs you shouldnt need to do any wiring.

i swapped a 81 cluster with tach into my 79 and it worked fine with no wire work

well everything plugged in right. everything works except the tach. and neither of the 2 wires above the speedo cable have power and i can't find where they go to.

Sometimes they didn't hook up the wire or even run one on the coil for the tach on certain years. You may have to run one.
