Birf/axle issues fj80 or Hilux
« on: Aug 31, 2010, 05:08:02 PM »
OK.... I am working on this fj-80 landcruiser that has fj-80 outers and a fj-60 9,5" diff....

the birf is seamed loose so I removed it examin it, and the copper bushing is torn to pices on one side and really worn on the other side, the birf with the shattered one has some head marks on it, and I was woundering if that might take the birf out of balense or something ? ??

Also both birfs seam off to me. on the hilux housings the birfs are kinda tight in the housing, you have to turn them correctly to take them out, but on this housing it seams like the birfs are to small, first of all I can push them roughly 1" deaper into the housing till they completly seat in the diff, and when I take the abs sensor out and the birfs are completly loose.  I am guessing the axles have been changed out for hilux birfs or something like that but I really donīt have a clue...

Can someone please give me an input on this... ?
should I change the birf with the heat markings???

hereīs a pic of the birf... you can also  see the busted bushing

good info on 80 axles there.

the heat marks are common, the stock birfs that where in my axle had heat marks pretty bad.
the knuckle balls are massive compared to the minis and the birfs do fit in there looser than on a mini axle. not sure about the other problems tho
