In my mind a turbo isnt for wheeling. you only get the extra power when it spools up. crawling wouldnt use the boost very much. If you do snow , sand or mud the turbo would be good. I tossed the idea around my self. If i was to do a 22rte i would use a small turbo that spooled up fast. so that the power would be there when wanted. Talk to pumkintoy he has a sweet turbo runner. just my 2 cents. good luck

Cody sorry i never hit you back up...

My buddy has a turbo truck and its no different on the rocks with that vs. a regular 22re. It has plenty of torque still at low rpm's. its great in the snow. Its great on the road. Its no different on the rocks. Theres nothing wrong with a turbo. Sure it has less torque but its not noticeable since the 22re sucks in the beginning.

On the rocks he never even spools up the turbo so its totally chill.

Id do it if you can get a good deal on one, if not then its not worth it to have a few extra hp. Guaranteed its still going to be underpowered for you so id juist get a regular 22re truck and just start saving for a 3rz or bigger/better swap.

well put Little B, i love having a turbo the powers there when i want it and if i dont want to spool up it runs like a 22re.  Its legit in the snow and driving to the trail is nice, i have no problem climbing hills with the bed loaded. as far as rocks go i dont really use it but it makes no difference cuz im at lower rpms anyway.

The only problem I ever had was on very steep uphills, with the lower compression it would loose steam and actually stop. Of course it was also an auto so that could have had something to do with it.

Some guy around here tried the SC and it didn't work out. Robbed more power than it gave him I think.

I would run a turbo for sure.  With a 223-1 reduction I don't need any more torque while wheelin.  But on the street and in the snow it would be sweet.

Do the turbo setup man!  You wont even notice you have a turbo when you are crawlin. when you do get into a situation where you need to put the hammer down, it fricken rocks cause you have so much available power when that turbo spools up!  For example, today we went and wheeled a couple hard crawlin trails. The second trail had some muddy sections with puddles of water right before the rocks. I got into the rocky areas with wet tires and was having a hell of a time getting up until i put my foot into it and spooled up the turbo.  It gets the wheelspeed going so fast that i just basically did a 4wheel burnout right up the rocks and over the obstical.  Its great having that available power. No its not really neccesary, but its deffinately fun.  The other benefit is the fact that even with 40" tires and 4:88 gears I can pull long steep hills on the highway with my tires aired down, and still accelerate instead of down shifting the whole way up.  Granted a 22ret wouldnt have as much power as my current setup, but having the power to keep up highway speeds with big tires is deffinately a benefit.  Those are the pros I can think of.  Cant really think of any cons, except for the fact that it cost more money in upkeep and parts when you need them. I guess thats a pretty obvious con though.

I did enjoy running 35's and going up the grapevine at 90mph without having to push it. One time I took a guy from PA to get a part for his 4Runner 3.0, we were up in Gorman so we went to Bakersfield. He couldn't believe how much more power I had over his.

yeah it gets really hot in my engine bay, still have never had an overheating problem even when i'm wheelin all day in 90+ degrees.  I need to get some loovers installed in my hood for sure though.

anything with tire speed, ie... sand, snow, mud. A turbo would be bitchin. oh and street too. Snow is what i like the most. Not very familiar with rocks... Havent owned a god damn rig long enough. But im pullin together what I think would be my last. So im tryin to think of everything i would like/do to it.
