Wiring prob. 1992 pickup 2wd 22RE
« on: Aug 05, 2010, 04:33:32 PM »
At the shop I work at, we have a 1992 pickup 2WD, with the 22RE in it. Fed emissions. the chain guides were broken, but the truck came in running. We pulled the chain out, put a new chain in. And when we tried to start the truck, we heard a pop and a cloud of smoke came up from the intake manifold side of the engine. The smoke smelt like wiring burning. we cant find any burnt wiring, and every time we try to connect the battery, the EFI fuse blows. If we undo the "E" connector on the PCM (the larger of the two), the battery can be connected without the EFI fuse blowing. Please help, im going crazy here.

Solved the problem, the wiring harness under the intake plenum rubbed through the wire loom and shorted out on the fuel rail.
