20R water choke bypass?
« on: Dec 01, 2009, 11:11:46 AM »
Is it possible to completely bypass the water choke hoses on a 20R by plugging the port on the intake and the connection under the intake?

Currently I have a PVC male/male connector in the place of the water choke since I've got a carb with elec. choke, but I'd like to remove the entire hose all together.

yes you can, just plug the intake hole and run the hose from the one under the intake to the heater core

A picture would help if you can.

So you are saying I can run a hose from the water pump outlet under the intake (where the water choke hose is now) to the heater core? Right now the heater core is connected to the other outlet under the intake, that runs into the side of the head. Can I block that port off?

I actually figured it out.

Underneath the intake, there is a temp activated vacuum tee. I unscrewed that, put in a 3/8 90* elbow and a 3/8 straight nipple from Home Depot. Doing this allowed me to use the factory elbow shaped hose that was part of the water choke (from the carb to the top of the intake), and connect the new inlet with the water pump outlet under the intake. Then I plugged the old location on top of the intake with a 1/2 pipe plug.

I'll try to get a picture.
