Weber Issues
« on: May 08, 2010, 05:32:43 AM »
I performed the vent mod on my Weber.(how to make a weber climb a hill) It climbs and idles great, but once in a while it will start to run crappy after a decent climb. The motor will start surging like its starving for fuel. Then it won't idle correctly. I'll turn it off and take it easy for a while and then it starts to run fine again. Any idea what this might be?  Float level, tuning?

What would cause the float to stick?

I've cleaned the needle valve and that seems to have fixed the original issue. However, i have another carb issue. Sometimes the throttle seems to hold itself almost wide open. When this occurs, i can easily move the pedal, which leads me to believe it has nothing to do with linkage. What could cause this?

could be a couple of things...
FIRST THING... check the tightness of the nut on the butterfly shaft, if you tighten it too tight it can keep the throttle from closing.... not sure what "spec" is but i put it just a lil bit past finger tight and make sure that the safety washer ears are locked down around the nut

maybe a throttle cable sticking, or bent linkage (on the carb or the factory stuff)...

I have done a couple of weber conversions and i have had to "shim" the linkage on some rigs (intake mounted linkage) so that you have flawless throttle operation.  on my 82 i had linkage that was bolted to the firewall and it had alot of adjustment so i didnt need to mess with anything...

i have also seen throttle pivots rust, specially floor mounted pedals.

Those are some huge welds!
