3rz compression question
« on: May 08, 2010, 08:57:15 PM »
I just rebuilt a 3rz block and had engnbldr rebuild the head.  I'm having difficulties tuning it with the SDS pro fuel injection kit which i used from LCengineering and so i started checking other areas of the motor for problems.  I dry compression tested it today and got 150psi on every cylinder.  I know it's good that they're all the same but I also know that it's supposed to be 178 normally and a minimum of 124psi.  What do you guys think about it being at 150 after just being rebuilt and its got less than 20 miles on the rebuild.  Thanks

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the compression numbers will appear low until the rings have seated  :dunno:

like Nate said,  the engine has to get broken in before you'll get big numbers on compression.  after you get 500 miles on it then recheck compression.

thanks guys! I was getting nervous especially because i couldn't get the engine to barely run.  Now for the dumbass of the month move- After messing with this thing for a couple of days and quite a few phone calls to LC and SDS i brought the truck to a shop only to find out after i made my spark plug wires i didn't bother hooking them back up correctly to the coil packs  :smack: .  As soon as i switched them and got over feeling like an idiot i started the motor and it just purred and the power is outstanding.  I'll be smiling for the rest of the day!  Thanks again for the responses

I'd like to see some dyno #'s on your motor with that SDS system too.....
