noisy alternator?
« on: May 12, 2010, 10:20:08 PM »
I just noticed tonight driving my truck home that when I turn the lights on, something under the hood starts making a whining sound, almost like a belt squeeling. When I first started it up, it made a weird long squeelling sound like the belt was slipping, and now it just sounds like a dry belt.  As soon as I turn off the lights and take the load off, the sound goes away.  Possibly time to change out the alternator?

Tighten the belt first.

If it's lose, the additional load may make the belt slip.
