W56 output shaft+tail housing fit W59?
« on: Nov 30, 2004, 03:58:30 PM »
Will this work?  I`m swapping a 2.7 into my truck (which has an auto) and I already have the w59 tranny that came with the motor.  My truck is am 85.  I`m planning on running dual t-cases and would like to fit this together some way.  I know marlin sells an adapter for this but I`m wondering if I can make it work without the adapter.

You can sell the W59 tranns and buy one thats an HD W56 from Marlin it will bolt directly to your W59 bell housing and then you won't have to worry about adapters for your t-case.

There are a number of issues............

The output shaft on the W59 is 26 spline and the trans has a reverse gear brake.

I have never done this conversion, however i recall speaking to a customer in so cal that said he made it work.
The mainshaft 5th speed output bearing would also have to be replaced a W56A, B, or C type bearing.

I have many W59's in stock so i could check this out for you if you were interested.

Ya thats me, I made it work.

I dont know about the auto stuff  I do know that if you have a 2.7 that came with a W59 then you just keep the bell housing and the put in a W56. Now I have version B of the W56 tranns, maybe that has some say in what you are doing.

TacoRunner, thanks for your help :beerchug:

I have helped a number of customers install W56's with dual cases behind 2.7's but still have not had to do change the tailhousing yet.

I still remember when you drove to my shop and i worked on your trans.

Thaks for the replies.  I think in the long run a w56 wil be the best way to go.  Marlin, how moch $$$ toward a HD W56 would a w59+t-case be worth
