Water proofing for deep water crossings
« on: Dec 06, 2004, 03:54:52 PM »
I've got an 88 and an 89 yota both with the W56 5 speed tranny. I like to do deep water crossings but the tranny and transfer case are not sealed. Anyone have a reliable method for sealing these things for deep water?

Alot of blue RTV works for me and saves the clutch from water. I just drilled and tapped the top of the housing and put a hose on a threaded fitting and ran it up to the engine compartment. And don't forget to seal the engine electrical

You can run all the vent tubes to a central vent tank (small aluminum tank) and then use one fillter running from the tank to a place high on the rig out of water. Axles, trany, transfer-x(s). You can also rtv the distributor cap on to keep water out of it.
