22re engine noise
« on: Feb 18, 2010, 04:40:06 PM »
i have a 22re motor that i took out of a 87 4runner and installed in my 84 pickup. i have a tapping noise at 2100 ro 2700 rpm. i haced and all of my valves are adjusted propperly. i also checked the timing chain. there is no slack and all the slides look like there in good shape. it sounds like the noise is coming from the top end. does anyone have any other ideas?

Weak timing chain tension.  I just recently pulled a timing cover on a 22r/e which had a cracked tensioner.  It was causing the timing chain to slap the cover at higher rpms.
