Noobie from GA
« on: Sep 14, 2009, 12:50:31 PM »
Just checking in.  I've been wheeling a stock tacoma for about a year while I searched for a dedicated trail rig.  Just recently purchased an 83 toyota single cab on 38's with some sort of rancho lift that was not running.  Trailer'd it to a friends house on my lunch break and he called me up half hour later and said he replaced an ignition wire and it started right up!   It is however, running very rich complete with black smoke and all.  We followed all of the FSM adjustment instructions but it will not lean out.  I've got a build "plan" laid out but I'm waiting on this economy to pick up to have the funds to start.  I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions along the way.

This is my first trail rig and definately the oldest truck I've ever owned.  I'm new to wheeling still and especially new to modding.  I'm a decent mech (spun wrenches for 6 years in the Marines) but just need the knowledge.... and this site is loaded with knowledge

Thanks for the site again and I'll be dropping some $$ with MC soon!

adding some pictures.

I got installed a factory carb from girlzlikemud2  here on the forums and that cleared up my black smoke issue.  Here are some pictures of the rig the way it sits now, which is the same condition I purchased it in.  I'm still unsure if I want to cut it up and make a trial rig, or lower it and build it for DD and mild trail riding.  The PO decided he would spray paint it black.  He painted over some rust, didn't tape it off, and used two different colors along with not finishing the job.  I have found another bed for it for free I just have to go pick it up.

I'm open to suggestions on the rig.  I need some ideas.

Anything you see wrong that you want to point out feel free!
