Topic: Coolant temp sensor code?

Well I really need to smog my truck and it's showing code 4 (check engine light).
WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL--OPEN OR SHORT IN WATER TEMP. SENSOR SIGNAL
--WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT
--WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR
--ECU

I replaced the temp sensor but that doesn't appear to be what the code calls for. Has anyone else had this code? How do i test the temp sensor? It it constant current or does it only recieve current when warm??? Help...

it would help if we knew what year your truck is and what engine you have.  Get a chilton or haynes manual. It should tell you how to test the sensor with an ohm meter

so anyway, haynes shows nothing about testing this thing- hence the reason for the post. It only talks simply about "troubleshooting" the guage temp sensor. Anyone know what Im looking for?

sorry i cant be of much help.  I dont have alot of experience with the 22re's.  Did you search online to try and find a way to test the sensor?

Yeah I cant find anything online either. I suppose I will just test it for any current tomorrow and work from there.....
