I'd say a G52 or G54 as the forward shift W series have a 6 bolt shifter base that has both the trans and t-case shifters on the same base. The G series use 2 seperate plates. Also, I would suspect it's not an R as the detents for the trans shifter on your trans are more towards the back where the R series detents are more towards the front. Your drain plug should go straight down and not to the passenger side as the R series trans does.

I just want to thank you for putting that avatar back up!

Since it is a forward shift and out of an 86, that tells me it was a carburetor 22r truck which makes it a G-54 If it were an EFI 86 it would have been a W-56B.

Now if it came out of a turbo truck it would be the R151F and is a real keeper, both the 22r and the 22RTE have forward shift t-cases.

Yup.
It's definitely a G series. If it's original to the truck it should be a G54. If theres a chance it's been swapped then the numbers would have to be checked or the nose cone would need to be pulled to measure the input bearing.
