Ethanol?
« on: Jun 25, 2010, 11:47:56 AM »
Just curious..... has anyone ever tried or used ethanol (moonshine) in your Toyota? I was watching something on tv about moonshine and they said they could use it as fuel. I dont plan on doing this (unless it works really good then I might try it) I just wanted to know if anyone has ever tried it or not. And if so does it work good with your engine or clean it out or anything? I know this is probly a stupid question but I figured it wouldnt hurt to ask

Don't think it would be the best idea, it is very corrosive to parts especially to exposed rubber parts. It currently is mostly for flex-fuel vehicles that have taken this into consideration during the build/engineering process.

Doesn't pure ethanol require higher compression as well?

Did you research this or did you just start this thread?  Remember, you're limiting yourself to a very small and often ill-informed user base when asking here, but there's this huge thing called the internet where you'll find more info on pretty much anything you're looking for than you could possibly absorb.  Try searching the internet, I hear it's catching on!

Nothing "requires" higher compression.  Higher compression requires higher octane fuel.  Lower compression requires whatever fuel you want to throw at it.

I just started the thread. I figured someone else might know more about this for toyotas than I could find or maybe someone else tried it
