22rte transmisson
« on: Jun 04, 2010, 11:26:50 AM »
hello, i have a question regarding my rte transmisson. If im correct the A/T that came in turbo 4runners was the A340H. im putting a turbo engine into an 86 4runner A/T, which should have the A340F if im not mistaken. my question is do i have to use the A340H transmisson with the turbo engine or will the transmisson that is in the 4runner currently (A340F) be suffice with the turbo? your input is much appreciated. thanks alot.

ive had 4 different 4runners ranging from 86 to 95 and they have all had a340H

so  double check on that 340f you think you have.

The 22RE/A340F is extremely rare, I've only ever heard of two and they were both in 92-ish trucks. Easy way to tell is the t-case shifter pattern. The A340F is a J-pattern like a manual, the A340H is a dogleg pattern. The 86 model A340H's have a bad rap as the most troublesome year, I don't know why or if it is true. If you have an issue you can always swap in an A340H out of a V6 truck, they are the strongest ones. You will have to pull the pans and swap the wiring harness and also keep your 22R bell and torque converter.
