rear end vibrates
« on: Oct 06, 2009, 04:50:35 PM »
i have 85 toy ext cab with about 3" of lift,lockers,gears,35" tires. should i be able to move the rear transfercase output up,down, side to side a very, very little bit,if not would this cause the rear of the truck to vibrate at 55 mph and up? the rear of the truck vibrates above 55 and i can't figure it out. i'v ran it on jack stands, checked pinion angles, changed wheels and tires.help

sounds to me like the driveshaft is not in phase

the yokes on the end of the tube must be turned the same way,  this usually happens when the shaft was removed at one end and was just slipped off the other end,  little do people know if its not put back right you will have bad vibrations

double checked, the yolks are the right way. would a bent axle shaft do this? also i used to have a set of 31" tires and it didn't vibrate then. and this is my second set of 35" tires and rims.

i'm assuming you have probly checked all the u-joints in your rear driveline?  Have you recently tapped or scraped your DL while out wheelin? it doesnt take much of a hit on the DL to cause vibrations. As far as the T-case output goes, i would say that if it had excessive play it would be leaking, so if its not leaking thats probly not it. One more thing, if you upgrade to a CV style DL for the rear it can take away alot of problems. You probly dont have enough lift to really need one but it is still a great upgrade! it took away ALL of my vibration issues.  Also check the pinion flange, that could be loose too.

i think it is one of the wheel spacers, i bolted them all together and one offset another one. put two back on that lined up perfect and took for a short drive and seems to be better,i'll take it for a longer drive in a little while.got them off e-bay kinda cheap.

Black dot means you have posted in the thread. There is a key to all the little folder deals at the bottom of the page you see the folders on.
