Scam or... ?
« on: Oct 01, 2010, 07:42:32 PM »
So we're trying to sale my wife's car right now because she'll be commuting to Grass Valley in the Winter. Posted it on all the usual websites and for sale on the window of the car....

Well we get this call today and this lady tell's my wife that she works for a company that finds car's for people and my wife's car is exactly what one of her clients are looking for. Rambles on about giving us full asking value but they'd like us to pay back $500 for something or another.... (yea WEIRD) My wife spoke to her so I didn't hear the conversation.

It's sounds very familiar to the classic craigslist scam's that you get in your email but I wasn't aware that they're actually calling now?

Thing that kinda pissed me off is that my wife's giving out her email which isn't that big of a deal I suppose but she's very gullible sometimes. That was the only thing the lady asked for.

Anyone have similar experience?

I remember somebody posting a thread about a similar situation roughly a year ago.

My guess is that it's a scam and the wife's email will be filled with about a million emails for random names with some off the wall web-site that they want you to visit to get "TOP DOLLAR!"   :shake:

R.I.P to my Papa, I miss you pops......

Tell them to come over with cash in hand. Some people do actually find cars for people and its a good business but dont do anything over the mail, and dont give away anything until you get your money first. Tell them to meet you at the bank or its a no go.

Tell em to pound sand and tell the wife you do all the talking when it comes to selling the car.  She may not wanna hear it, but it kinda sounds like she's the type they look for so they can walk all over them.

I've heard of the deals, maybe not scams, but people who either look for cars for others or buy them cheap and sell for a profit.  Had it happen to me years ago, older gentleman gave me a sob story about how he just wanted a cheap, economical 4by.  I fell for it, gave him a great deal, then saw it on a used car lot 2 weeks later.  I was fawkin pissed man!

the payback $500 is a sure scam. A serious inquiry would not include any type of "money refund." Thats how these Fu$%ers make any money at all.

Similar thing happened to your great-grandpa Q, and he was plenty upset about it also. After he was no longer able to drive, a neighbor wanted his very clean '64 Pontiac Bonneville (said he loved the car, wanted to keep it for himself). Did I mention the neighbor was a used car salesman? Being a nice guy, Grandpa sold it to him, cheap. Wasn't long before the car was sitting on the guy's lot, with a much higher asking price. Grandpa was

Back on topic.... Shamb, your instincts are spot-on. It's definitely a scam. Wait for a legitimate buyer.

Tell them to come over with cash in hand.

That's the only thing I'd settle for - Deal person to person and with cash that way you know you're not getting jipped.

"Cash in hand and it's all yours!"

siniors should be treated with high respect, but sadly these kindof scammers target them.

F this its about time something is done about online scammers.
